IPL 2025: Delhi Capitals Fear Exit, Make Urgent Appeal To BCCI

With rain threatening to disrupt tonight's MI vs DC game at Wankhede, Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal has written to the BCCI.

A high-stakes IPL 2025 clash between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals is set to take place tonight at 7:30 PM at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium. The outcome will play a decisive role in determining the final playoff spot.

If Mumbai win, they qualify and knock Delhi out. For Delhi, a win is crucial to stay alive in the playoff race.

However, heavy rain in Mumbai has cast a shadow over the fixture. The India Meteorological Department has issued a warning, raising the likelihood of a washout. In such a scenario, both teams will be awarded one point - benefiting Mumbai and potentially eliminating Delhi from contention.

Parth Jindal Urges BCCI to Shift Venue

With rain threatening to disrupt the game, Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal has written to the BCCI, requesting that the match be relocated. According to an ESPNCricinfo report, Jindal argued that the weather forecast has been consistently unfavorable for several days and a washout would unfairly end Delhi's campaign.

"The forecast in Mumbai is for heavy rains and there is a strong likelihood that the game will be washed out," he wrote. "Just as the game between RCB vs SRH has been moved out of Bengaluru in the quest for consistency and in the interest of the league it is my request that tomorrow's game also be moved to a different location as we have known for the better part of 6 days that the forecast for 21st in Mumbai is for heavy showers," an e-mail accessed by the website states.

Delhi currently sit fifth on the points table with 13 points and must win both of their remaining matches to stay in playoff contention. Their final league match is against Punjab Kings.

Precedent set with RCB vs SRH game

BCCI recently moved the RCB vs Sunrisers Hyderabad match - originally scheduled at the rain-hit M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru - to Lucknow's Ekana Stadium. The decision came after persistent weather concerns and the washout of RCB vs KKR, which led to KKR's elimination from the playoffs race.

Delhi Capitals are now hoping for similar consideration, urging the board to act in the interest of fairness and the spirit of the tournament.
