IPL 2023: Lucknow Super Giants' Special Gesture To Honour Marcus Stoinis For All-Round Show Vs PBKS

Marcus Stoinis' blistering knock (72 runs off 40 balls with help of 6 fours and 5 sixes) on a belter of a pitch set a platform for a mammoth total as Lucknow posted 257 for five on board.

Lucknow Super Giants defeated Punjab Kings by 56 runs in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match at Mohali's Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) stadium on Friday (April 28). 'Player of the match' Marcus Stoinis had a huge contribution in helping Lucknow beat Punjab. He almost had a perfect evening against Punjab. The 33-year-old star middle order batter's blistering knock (72 runs off 40 balls with help of 6 fours and 5 sixes) on a belter of a pitch set a platform for a mammoth total as Lucknow posted 257 for five on board -- second highest total in the history of Indian Premier League.

Sadly, the night ended on a sad note for Marcus and his team Lucknow. On the final ball of the third over of Punjab Kings' innings, a powerful shot from Atharva Taide came straight down to Stoinis after which he attempted to take a catch but failed to complete it. During the process, Stoinis got hit on his fingers and was seen in extreme pain while physio was inspecting him.

Stoinis didn't come out to field after that and later was seen collecting Player of the match award for his all-round brilliance. His participation in future games for Lucknow is even in doubt.

Lucknow Super Giants paid a fitting tribute to Marcus Stoinis by changing their Twitter bio to "This is a Marcus Stoinis fan page" in honour of the Aussie all-rounder.

During the post-match presentation, Stoinis provided an update about his injury, revealing that the scans will be done to know the severity of the injury.

"The finger is alright. It is better now. We will get scans done. We were joking about the difference between this wicket and the one at our home. Was just trying to build partnerships. Ayush got off to a flier as well. I do like to take responsibility of batting in the middle order and finishing it off. I have batted everywhere in my career. I was swinging a few in the nets. So, they got excited and gave me the new ball. No one loves to bowl on a flat one. The home wicket suits me more as my change of pace helps me there", he said.
