IPL 2022 Retention: A Look At The Uncapped Players That Were Retained Ahead Of Some Legends
IPL Retention 2022: A total of 27 players have been retained in the retention, including four uncapped players.
Uncapped Retained IPL Players: A total of 27 players have been retained in the IPL 2022 retention. All 8 of these franchises have included their match-winning players in the squad. Superstars like RCB's Virat Kohli, CSK's MS Dhoni, MI's Rohit Sharma were retained in the squad. Younger stars like Suryakumar Yadav, Sanju Samson, Rishabh Pant and Prithvi Shaw have also been selected. The players released will be bid at an auction happening early next year. While new teams from Lucknow and Ahmedabad will be given a chance to pick 3-3 players first.
In this retention process, along with experienced and young players four uncapped but impressive players have also managed to make it to their respective teams. IPL had prepared a slot of maximum Rs 4 crore for uncapped players. It seems a wise decision for franchises to include uncapped players in the Rs 90 crore purse at a lower price. This will enable them to spend more from their purses for the upcoming IPL auction.
The four uncapped players retained in IPL 2022 retention are as follows:
1- Yashasvi Jaiswal (Rajasthan Royals)
RR's 19-year-old opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has played some brilliant innings for his team last season. After a stellar performance in the year 2020 in the Under-19 World Cup, Rajasthan Royals bought him for Rs 2.4 crore in IPL 2020 auction. He was the Player of the Tournament of the Under-19 World Cup. The franchise has retained him in the team for Rs 4 crore looking at his bright future.
2- Abdul Samad (Sunrisers Hyderabad)
Abdul Samad, a 20-year-old all-rounder from Jammu and Kashmir, was bought and included in the squad by SRH in the IPL 2020 auction. The right-hander has made a name for himself while playing for the Jammu and Kashmir team in domestic cricket. He may have been given lesser chances to play in the IPL but he has managed to make an impact in the matches played in the last two seasons.
3- Arshdeep Singh (Punjab Kings)
Arshdeep Singh, 22, from Madhya Pradesh, is a right-handed medium fast bowler. He was included in the Indian squad for the Under-19 World Cup in 2018. After which he was bought in the auction by Punjab Kings (then Kings XI Punjab) before IPL 2019. That season he was the second highest wicket-taker for his team. He toured Sri Lanka as a net bowler with the Indian team in June 2021. However, his dream of playing for Team India has not been fulfilled so far.
4- Umran Malik (Sunrisers Hyderabad)
Right-arm pacer Umran Malik is the second player on the list from Jammu and Kashmir. He was included in the squad by SRH last season as a Covid-19 replacement. He made headlines for bowling five balls in a row at a pace of more than 150 kmph in a match against RCB. Sunrisers Hyderabad have retained him for Rs 4 crore ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction.
