Threat Mail To Delhi Stadium: DDCA Warned Of Attack By 'Pak Sleeper Cells'; Police Informed

DDCA received a terror threat email warning of a blast at Arun Jaitley Stadium amid rising India-Pakistan tensions amidst Operation Sindoor.

The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) received an anonymous email threat on the morning of May 9, warning of a blast at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The message, received at 9 a.m., referenced ongoing cross-border tensions and India’s Operation Sindoor.

According to sources, the email read: “We’ve Pak faithful sleeper cells across India. We will activate them for Op Sindoor. We will blast your stadium.”

The DDCA has alerted Delhi Police, and an investigation is currently underway.

The Arun Jaitley Stadium had last hosted an Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match on April 29 between Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders.

The threat comes amid heightened military activity along the India-Pakistan border following a deadly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam that killed 26 people. India responded with Operation Sindoor.

IPL 2025 Suspended For A Week Amid Rising India-Pakistan Tensions

Notably, The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has formally suspended the IPL 2025 season amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan in the wake of Operation Sindoor conducted by the Indian Armed Forces. The decision was made following high-level deliberations within the BCCI and in consultation with the Government of India.

An official statement by IPL confirmed the suspension of the remainder of IPL 2025 for one week due to rising tensions following Operation Sindoor, citing concerns from franchises, players, broadcasters, and fans. A revised schedule will be announced after assessing the situation with relevant authorities.

"The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to suspend the remainder of the ongoing TATA IPL 2025 with immediate effect for one week. Further updates regarding the new schedule and venues of the tournament will be announced in due course after a comprehensive assessment of the situation in consultation with relevant authorities and stakeholders," statement read.

"The decision was taken by the IPL Governing Council after due consultation with all key stakeholders following the representations from most of the franchisees, who conveyed the concern and sentiments of their players, and also the views of the broadcaster, sponsors and fans ; while the BCCI reposes full faith in the strength and preparedness of our armed forces, the Board considered it prudent to act in the collective interest of all stakeholders," reads the statement further.

"At this critical juncture, the BCCI stands firmly with the nation. We express our solidarity with the Government of India, the Armed Forces and the people of our country. The Board salutes the bravery, courage, and selfless service of our armed forces, whose heroic efforts under Operation Sindoor continue to protect and inspire the nation, as they lead a resolute response to the recent terrorist attack and the unwarranted aggression by Pakistan’s armed forces."
