Notably, GT are playing without their captain Hardik Pandya in this match. In his absence, Vijay Shankar has been drafted into the Starting 11 while Rashid Khan is leading the team. When asked why Hardik wasn't available, Rashid, who walked out for the toss along with KKR captain Nitish Rana said that the star all-rounder wasn't well and the team did not want to risk him.
GT opted to bat first after winning the toss and Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill started were the opening duo for the home team who got off to a positive start before this catch from Jagadeesan helped KKR draw first blood. Narine returned to pick the wicket of Shubman Gill later in the innings.
