The much-anticipated final of the Indian Premier League 2023 had to be rescheduled to the reserve day following continuous downpours that resulted in the postponement of the toss and the inability to commence the summit clash in Ahmedabad. The decision to move the title clash between the Gujarat Titans and the Chennai Super Kings was announced at 10:55 pm. 

With an unfavourable weather forecast for Sunday's final, the situation deteriorated further for the eager fans who had flocked to the stadium in large numbers. The rainfall began at approximately 6:30 pm local time, half an hour prior to the scheduled toss, and persisted for over two and a half hours.

After a temporary halt in the rain around 9:00 pm local time, the ground staff removed the covers and deployed two super sopor machines, which are used to absorb excess water from the playing surface. However, a heavy downpour ensued, forcing the ground staff to quickly protect the field again and direct the players off the pitch, interrupting their warm-up routine.

Significant puddles formed on the covers and exposed parts of the outfield, requiring the ground staff to spend over an hour in preparation, assuming the rain ceased.
