Rohit Sharma Recovering Well, To Return For India Vs West Indies Series: Report

If captain Rohit Sharma returns, he will be leading the Indian cricket team as a full-time ODI captain for the first time in his career.

New Delhi: In what comes as a massive development for team India fans, senior opener Rohit Sharma is ready to make his much-awaited return to international cricket, when team India lock horns with West Indies in a three-match ODI series, next month.

Rohit, the newly-appointed team India's white-ball skipper, was ruled out of India's tour to South Africa after sustaining a hamstring injury. However, the star opener has now recovered from his injury and is set to lead the national team against Windies, on home soil.

For the unversed, West Indies is slated to play three ODIs and as many T20Is during their tour. The ODIs will be played from February 6 to 12, while T20Is will be played from February 15 to 20. Rohit Sharma will be leading the Indian cricket team as a full-time ODI captain for the first time in his career.

“Though we haven’t received Rohit’s fitness report from the NCA yet, what we know is he has worked really hard on his fitness and is on course to return to the side. It is important for the team to have your captain and Rohit’s presence will bring a lot more confidence,” a source privy to developments was quoted as saying by News9.

“West Indies will fly in as soon as they complete their series against England and we are well prepared to host them in our bio-secure bubbles in Ahmedabad and Kolkata,” the source added.

Rohit has been battling hamstring problems for a long time. He was dropped from the national team for the first two Test matches after the limited overs series on the 2020-21 Australia tour for the same reason.
