'If I Get 20 Minutes With Him...': Sunil Gavaskar Offers To Help Virat Kohli
Former India skipper and legendary opener Sunil Gavaskar has offered to help Virat Kohli with his faulty technique.
New Delhi: Former Indian captain Virat Kohli is currently going through the worst phase of his career. Kohli had faced a similar lean patch in 2014 during the tour of England when he could score just 134 runs in 10 innings of 5 Test matches. However, he got out of this very soon and later went on to establish himself as one of the best batters Indian cricket has ever produced.
Virat has not been able to cross the 50 mark in the last 9 innings in all formats, while his century drought continues from his last 79 innings.
Meanwhile, former India skipper and legendary opener Sunil Gavaskar has offered to help Virat Kohli with his faulty technique.
"If I had about 20 minutes with him, I would be able to tell him the things he might have to do. It might help him, I am not saying it will help him but it could, particularly with regards to that off-stump line," Gavaskar said in an interaction with India Today.
"Having been an opening batter, having been troubled by that line, there are certain things that you try and do. If I get 20 minutes with him, I might be able to tell him," he added.
The cricketer-turned-commentator stated that Virat is attempting to play every delivery in order to overcome his bad form.
"It goes back to the fact that his first mistake turns out to be his last. Again, just because he is not amongst the runs, there is this anxiety to play at every delivery because that is what batters feel, they have got to score. You look to play at deliveries that you otherwise won't. But he has gotten out to good deliveries as well on this particular tour," concluded Gavaskar.
On the recently-concluded England tour, Kohli could not score 100 runs in 6 innings. In both the innings of the Edgbaston Test, Kohli scored 11 and 20 runs, while he scored 1 and 11 runs in the two T20 matches.
It was expected that Kohli would find his rhythm in ODI cricket, as it is his favorite format, but here too, he scored 16 and 17 runs, respectively in two ODIs.
