U19 World Cup: India Clean Up Japan For A Measly 41, Bishnoi Shines With 4 Wickets

The 13-run partnership for the eighth wicket between Max Clements and Kento Ota Dobell was highest in Japan's innings - but Tyagi ended the stand by dismissing the latter. Akash Singh departed the last two Japanese batsmen to provide the finishing touch

New Delhi: Japan U19 cricket team had a sobering cricket World Cup debut on Monday as they were dismissed for mere 41 runs in 22.5 overs by India U19 at Bloemfontein in the Group A match of the U19 Cricket World Cup. This is now the joint third lowest team total in U19 international cricket history and joint 2nd lowest in a U19 World Cup match. Not a single Japan batsman could mange to score runs in double figures. Earlier, in the under 19 level, Scotland was bundled out for just 22 runs in 2003 against Australia; the lowest ever score in an Under 19 level international match. For India, young paceman Kartik Tyagi picked back-to-back wickets in the fifth over to set tone for the thumping win. After Tyagi's heroics, Ravi Bishnoi bowled remarkably well to destroy Japan's top and middle order batsmen. Bishnoi ended up taking 4 wickets from 8 overs and him bowling two successive double-wicket maidens was the highlight of his magical spell. The 13-run partnership for the eighth wicket between Max Clements and Kento Ota Dobell was highest in Japan's innings - but Tyagi ended the stand by dismissing the latter. Akash Singh departed the last two Japanese batsmen to provide the finishing touch. India chased the 42-run target in just 4.5 overs.
