Background

India vs England final Test match of the four-match Test series started from Thursday i.e. March 4, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The Indian cricket team will aim to secure a place in the ICC World Test Championship finals by sealing the series 3-1 to face New Zealand in the WTC Final at Lords.

Earlier, India vs England 3rd Test was also played on this ground, which surprisingly got wrapped up within the first two days. It was a Day/Night Test, played with a pink ball under the lights which was won by India by 10 wickets.

Both the first matches of the Ind vs Eng Test series were played at Chepauk Stadium in Chennai.  The first Test was won by England by 227 runs. After which, India made a much-needed comeback to win the second Test by 317 runs and are currently leading the 4-match Test series 2–1.

England, on the other hand, has been eliminated from World Test Championship finals race, as the visiting team had to face defeat in the 3rd Test against India at Chennai.

New Zealand has already qualified for the finals. The World Test Championship will get a second finalist only after the result of India vs England fourth Test, played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera.

India beat England by an innings and 25 runs, seal series 3-1

Riding high on confidence, Virat Kohli-led Indian cricket team on Saturday defeated England by an innings and 25 runs on Day 3 of the fourth and final Test at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium to clinch the four-match Test series 3-1 and seal berth in the World Test Championship final, where they will take on New Zealand at the Lord's from June 18-22.
 
Bowlers from both the teams delivered stand-out performances but India's veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and talented young off-spinner Axar Patel (last 5 innings 5/60, 6/38, 5/32, 4/68, 5/43*) picked up 17 wickets between them to bowl England out for 205 in their first innings and then 135 in the second.  Earlier in the day, a crucial knock from Washington Sundar (96*) and Axar Patel (43) helped India put 365 on board and extend their lead to 160.
