IND V ENG 2nd T20I: How umpire Shamsuddin's howler turned the match in India's favour
New Delhi: Jaspirt Bumrah bowled a last over that has the potential to be the talking point in cricket for some time. He gave just 2 runs and picked up 2 wickets to defend 8 off the last six. But some credit must go to umpire Shamsuddin for his howler that saw the back of Joe Root on the first ball off the last over.
It all boiled to 8 off six and England had a well settled Joe Root batting on 38 when Bumrah marked his run up to bowl the last over. The odds were against Bumrah. He bowled a slower one which struck Joe Root’s pads and the Indians went up in a vociferous appeal, umpire Shamsuddin didn’t take much time to raise his finger and India had one foot in the door.

Root was livid with decision and the replays showed why. Root had virtually knocked the cover of the ball before it had struck his pads.
The Indians were not complaining as the following England batsman could barely put bat to ball and India snatched victory from the jaws of defeat to level the series.
Interestingly, it was Shamsuddin who had adjudged Virat Kohli not out right at the start of the Indian innings even when the ball would have crashed into middle stump.
Umpire Shamsuddin’s shocking decision in the last over immediately became a talking a point in social media as people started to troll him badly.
