According to Bar and Bench, Special Court of Additional Sessions Judge Alka Malik pronounced the decision today. The other accused – Ravinder Singh Bhasin, Rajiv Gupta and Nirmal Singh – were also acquitted.
"All the accused have been acquitted," advocate Hitesh Puri told the Bar and Bench. He represented accused Nirmal Singh in the case.
Justice Nirmal Yadav was represented by Senior Advocate SK Garg Narwana and Advocate VG Narwana. Advocates AS Chahal, BS Riar and Hitesh Puri represented other accused.
The case against Justice Yadav emerged in 2008 when a bag of ₹15 lakh was delivered at the residence of Justice Nirmaljit Kaur, another sitting judge of the High Court. The peon of Kaur reported the matter to Chandigarh police, and an FIR was then registered. Later, the case was transferred to CBI on orders of General (retd) SF Rodrigues, then Governor of Punjab and Administrator, Union Territory of Chandigarh.
The Bar and Bench reports that CBI had initially filed a closure report in the case. However, it was later rejected. It filed a charge sheet against the accused in 2011.
