New Dayaben in ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’? Show’s Producer Asit Modi Finds a Suitable Actress

One of Indian television’s longest-running and most popular shows, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, is set for a major change.

One of Indian television’s longest-running and most popular shows, 'Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah', is set for a major change. Fans have been eagerly awaiting the return of Dayaben, a beloved character originally portrayed by Disha Vakani. However, since her maternity leave in 2018, she has not returned to the show. Now, it appears the makers have found a new actress for the role.

Producer Asit Modi Confirms Search for a New Dayaben

A few months ago, Asit Modi, the show’s producer, officially confirmed that Disha Vakani will not be returning. Since then, the hunt for a new Dayaben has intensified. Now, a News18 report has quoted a source close to the production, revealing that Modi has finally found an actress who has impressed him.

The report states that a new actress has been shortlisted for the iconic role of Dayaben, known for her signature catchphrase “Tappu Ke Papa” and her unique comic timing. Not only that, but the team has already begun mock shoots with the potential replacement.

Mock Shoots Underway for the New Dayaben

"Yes, it is right. Asit ji had been looking for a new Dayaben, and recently, one of the auditions impressed him a lot. Mock shoots with the actress are underway. It’s been around a week that she has been here, shooting with us," News18 quoted a source as saying.

However, no official confirmation has been given by Asit Modi’s team yet.

Asit Modi’s Statement on Disha Vakani’s Absence

Earlier in January 2024, Asit Modi spoke about Disha Vakani's long absence and shared that she is like family to him. He expressed that her return seems unlikely due to her responsibilities as a mother.

"I am still trying. I believe Disha Vakani can’t be back. She has two children. She is like my sister. Even today, we have a very close relationship with her family. My sister Disha Vakani has tied a Rakhi to me. Her father and brother are also family to me," he said.

Modi also acknowledged the challenges women face after marriage and motherhood.

"It is difficult for her now (to return to the show). For women, life changes after marriage. Working with small children and managing the house is really a bit difficult for them. But I am still positive. I feel somewhere that God will do some miracle, and she will return. If she comes, then it will be a good thing. If for some reason she does not come, then I will have to bring another Dayaben for the show."

With mock shoots already in progress, it seems like the iconic character of Dayaben might finally be making a grand comeback—with a new face!
