IND VS SL: Ritika Consoled After Rohit Sharma's Wicket On Second Ball Leaves Her In Disbelief. WATCH

Rohit was again expecting an identical delivery on the next ball but Madushanka outclassed the Indian opener, bowling a cutter.

Sri Lankan speedster Dilshan Madushanka delivered the ball of his life when he escaped the wicket of Indian skipper Rohit Sharma in the ongoing World Cup 2023 clash between India and Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Kushal Mendis won the toss and opted to bowl first after winning the toss on Thursday and Madushanka proved his captain’s decision right by picking up a huge wicket of the Indian skipper on the second ball of the game. Rohit departed only after scoring four runs against the Island nation.

Sri Lanka started their proceedings with an unconventional field setup and went on to aim Rohit's pads by placing a catcher at short fine. Madushanka’s first delivery was targeted at Rohit’s stumps but then the Indian skipper was quick enough to flick it away and got off the mark with a boundary.

Rohit was again expecting an identical delivery on the next ball but Madushanka outclassed the Indian opener, bowling a cutter. The moment Rohit departed, the crowd of Wankhede was stunned but what hogged all the limelight was Ritika’s reaction who is the wife of Rohit Sharma. Ritika, who was sitting in the stands, was shocked after Rohit’s wicket. The person who was sitting next to her had to console Rohit’s wife.

Sri Lanka on the other hand made one change from the side that faced a seven-wicket loss against Afghanistan as they roped in leg-spinner Dushan Hemantha in place of Dhananjaya de Silva. Earlier, during the time of the toss, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma said that he wanted to bat first as the wicket looked good.

“Would have batted first. Obviously some assistance to start with but under lights there will be good assistance for our pacers. Great honour, great moment to lead the team. It's important for us to no get carried away by the performances we put in. Same team as the last game” Rohit said.
