World Cup 2019: Massive reprieve for Warner as zing bails don't fall for 5th time in tourney

Opening the innings for the Aussies, there was a bizarre moment when on the 1st ball of the second over of Bumrah's, the bails didn't fall even after a thick edge from Warner's bat crashed directly into the stumps.

Australian opener David Warner got a massive respite in the World Cup game against India at the Kennington Oval after he chopped on a Jasprit Bumrah delivery back onto the stumps, only to see the bails remain firmly in position. Opening the innings for the Aussies, there was a bizarre moment early in the match when on the 1st ball of Bumrah's  second over, the bails didn't fall even after a thick edge from Warner's bat crashed directly into the stumps. Incidentally, this happened  to be the 5th time that such an incident has occurred at the ongoing World Cup 2019. Experts and fans have been left zapped by the 'zing bails' which have refused to fall at crucial times, thereby undoing hours of hard work from bowlers in the modern game which is heavily dominated by the batsmen. Earlier, Quinton de Kock (off Adil Rashid), Dimuth Karunaratne (off Trent Boult), Chris Gayle (off Mitchell Starc) and Mohammad Saifuddin (off Ben Stokes) all had luck on their side as the bails didn't fall even after the ball hit that stumps, that too firmly. This failure of the zing bails to fall has led many former cricketers questioning the ICC over their usage. After Sunday's match at The Oval which India won by 36 runs, former England captain Nasser Hussain said, "This can't keep happening with the bails !!! Hard enough being a bowler nowadays... needs changing." Former Pakistan speedster Shoaib Akhtar was also off the view that the ICC needs to take a look over the issue. "What's going on?? In my entire life, I have not seen 5 instances like this, let alone in the space of 10 days or a tournament." Cricketer-turned commentator Mohammad Kaif tweeted: "These zing bails, something needs to be done. As if applied glue. Lights and stump mic making their mark for probably the 5th time this WC." Australia succumbed to their first loss at the hands of India in the ongoing World Cup being held in the United Kingdom. After registering back to back wins against Afghanistan and West Indies in their opening two fixtures, Australia were handed a 36-run defeat by Kohli and Co in their third game at Kennington Oval.
