With support form former team mates, Jacob Martin out of ICU

Martin's wife Khyati stated that though she has been receiving financial assistance, still she needs more money in the coming days

Days after struggling for his life following a brutal road accident, former Indian cricketer Jacob Martin is out of danger as he has been shifted from the ICU to the general ward. He sustained some serious injuries to his liver and lungs in the accident in Baroda but has now turned stable and is in a condition to talk.

According to an Indian Express report, his wife Khyati stated that though she has been receiving financial assistance, still she needs more money in the coming days.

“There are people who donated big and there were some who donated small depending upon their capacity. I got help from Indian cricketers, BCCI, Baroda Cricket Association and even Chennai Super Kings but I will be needing more financial assistance in the coming days as chances are that Jacob will be in the hospital for two more months,” Khyati was quoted as saying.

So far, Martin’s family has received around Rs 16 lakh as assistance from various quarters including current and former cricketers, IPL franchises, umpires and match referees. The hospital expenses incurred so far have been more than Rs 15 lakh.

Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly has provided support and had also urged others to extend their support in all possible capacities. Former pacers Ashish Nehra and Zaheer Khan also contributed while Krunal Pandya sent a blank cheque.

The list included Indian head coach Ravi Shastri, Pathan Brothers, Munaf Patel and Kiran More. Apart from these cricketers, Baroda Cricket Association and a few IPL franchises also helped the ailing former cricketer following the news of his accident.

The BCCI stepped in to sanction Rs 5 lakhs, while Sanjay Patel, the former BCCI and BCA secretary, had facilitated the efforts to raise the funds.

Martin played 10 ODIs for India and captained Baroda to the Ranji Trophy title in 2001. He was among a handful of players who scored more than 1000 runs in a single Ranji season.
