Will Combat Sexual Assault Charges: Former Nepal Cricket Captain Sandeep Lamichhane To Surrender To Authorities

The teen-aged girl filed an FIR against Sandeep with the Kathmandu Police at the Police Circle Gaushala.

Nepal's rising spin bowler Sandeep Lamichhane on Saturday confirmed that he will surrender to Nepal authorities to combat the sexual assault charges against him. He has been accused of rape by a 17-year-old girl in a hotel room in Kathmandu, police said. An arrest warrant has also been issued against him over alleged rape, said police as reported by news agency AFP. 

On Saturday, the wrist spinner posted an update on his Facebook handle and stated,” With great hope and strength, I hereby confirm that I am reaching to my home country Nepal on this 6th October 2022 and will submit myself to the authority of Nepal to fight a legal battle against the false allegation.

I hereby reiterate that I am INNOCENT and have complete non-shaken faith in the justice system. I firmly believe overall Book the law enforcement authorities and honorable courts on their fair trial and adjudication and I am just hoping to get justice at the earliest.”

The statement further added,” My dear well-wishers assure you all that I am innocent and I have not wronged you. I have recovered from the unpleasant situation I went through and I have prepared myself to go through this ordeal to prove myself innocent and a victim of a conspiracy. I am sure all wrongful allegations charged against me will be unfolded by the span of time.”

The teen-aged girl filed an FIR against Sandeep with the Kathmandu Police at the Police Circle Gaushala.  In T20 Internationals, Lamichhane has taken 78 wickets in 40 matches for Nepal at an economy rate of 6.26. He is especially known for his economical bowling in this format. He has also got a chance to play in the Indian Premier League.

He is the only cricketer from Nepal who has been included in the draft of IPL and has also got a chance to play in this league. He made his debut in this league for Delhi Capitals in the year 2018. During this, he played for Delhi only for two seasons, in which he got a chance to play in 9 matches.
