WATCH: Virat Kohli feels nobody should be compared to Sachin Tendulkar
Says he would never be able to match him
New Delhi: Virat Kohli is undoubtedly one of the best batsmen that the world cricket has ever seen. His form over the last 18 months is a testament to that.
He carried India into the semi-finals of the recently concluded World T20 at home before hitting unprecedented four centuries in the latest edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to lead his franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) into the finals of the tournament. Unfortunately, on both the occasions, he could not lift the trophy. However, he received praises from all quarters and was compared with another great batsman Sachin Tendulkar with some calling the Delhi lad better than the master blaster.
In a recent video interview with ICC, Virat, who idolises Tendulkar, pleaded all to not compare him with the Mumbaikar
“I don’t see why people compare me with him because the way he played his cricket and the way he inspired people, I don’t think anyone else has been able to inspire people like that. Where he is, I think all the comparison should start leaving him aside. Even if people want to compare, he should be left apart, it should start from under him,” the Indian Test skipper said.
In the World T20, after scoring an epic 51-ball 82 which took India over the line against the arch-rivals Pakistan, Virat bowed down to Tendulkar, who was present in the stands during the match, to pay respect to the genius.
Virat said it is humanly impossible to match-up with Sachin’s legacy.
“I don’t intend to match up to the numbers that he has produced for India because it is humanly impossible to that you will be able to play that long period because he started at 16 firstly and then to be so consistent, you cannot guarantee that.”
