Wasim Jaffer Picks Three Potential Players Who Can Have A Long Run In Team India After Virat & Rohit

Wasim Jaffer was asked to choose players who have a bright future in the long-run and can fix their place in the Indian Team after Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, the talented youngster who scored a debut ton in the ongoing IND vs WI Test series, is one of the three batsmen that ex-India cricketer Wasim Jaffer believes would advance Indian cricket once Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retire. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been the star batters for the Indian Team and its backbone over the past few years. Jaiswal made an explosive debut by scoring a century and a half-century in his first two innings against the West Indies but he is yet to represent India in white-ball cricket. He’ll now be hoping to enjoy similar success in the upcoming years.

Wasim Jafar's top three picks were:

Yashasvi Jaiswal

During a conversation on JioCinema, Jaffer was asked to choose players who have a bright future in the long-run and can fix their place in the Indian Team after Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Jaiswal was the first player he named, by reason: "One is Yashasvi Jaiswal. I see him as a three-format player. He has performed amazingly well in the IPL and has made an excellent start in Test cricket."

Shubman Gill

Jaffer's second favourite pick was Shubman Gill, the latter stated: "Shubman Gill is the second name I will take. If we talk only about batting, I see these two players as very strong contenders who will take Indian cricket forward after Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli."

Gill has enjoyed a stellar start to his limited-overs career, with an average of 65.55 and 40.40 in the 24 ODIs and six T20Is he has played. He has scored 937 runs overall at a below-average average of 31.23 in 32 innings in Test cricket, thus he has not seen the same level of success there. In his two innings in the current Test series against the West Indies, Shubman got dismissed cheaply twice.

Sai Sudharsan

Wasim Jaffer concluded by picking Sai Sudharsan as another long-term investment for the Indian Team. He further elaborated: "Sai Sudharsan is a player who I have liked a lot, the way he has played in the IPL. After that, he has scored a century against Pakistan A in the emerging teams' tournament that is going on. So I feel he can become a very good player in the future."

In his eight innings during IPL 2023, the Gujarat Titans batsman accumulated 362 runs at a remarkable strike rate of 141.40, including a 96-run knock off only 47 balls in the championship game. In India A's eight-wicket victory against Pakistan A in their last group match of the current Emerging Asia Cup, he struck an unbeaten 104 from 110 deliveries.
