'Virat Kohli's Family Life Has To Come First': Nasser Hussain On Reports Of India Star Missing Next Two Tests vs England

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) urged the media and fans on January 22 to respect Kohli's privacy and avoid speculating about the nature of his personal reasons.

Former India captain Virat Kohli's absence from the ongoing Test series against England might extend to the next two matches and there are speculations that he might miss the final match of the ongoing five-match Test series against Engalnd as well. Kohli withdrew from the initial two Tests, citing personal reasons, but the duration of his break has become a subject of widespread discussion.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) urged the media and fans on January 22 to respect Kohli's privacy and avoid speculating about the nature of his personal reasons. The uncertainty surrounding Kohli's participation in the upcoming Tests at Rajkot, Ranchi, and Dharamshala is yet to be officially confirmed by the Indian team.

Any Team Would Miss Someone Of Stature Of Kohli: Nasser Hussain

Former captain Nasser Hussain, acknowledging Kohli's indispensable role, expressed sentiments about the impact of his potential absence. Hussain highlighted the significance of prioritising Kohli's well-being over the game, emphasising that if the break is what the veteran batter needs for personal reasons, it should be respected.

"Virat Kohli is one of the greatest to ever play the game, and any series and any side would miss someone of the stature of Kohli," Hussain told Sky Sports. He also acknowledged the potential setback for India and cricket as a whole, especially considering the thrilling nature of the series, currently levelled at 1-1.

Cricket Also Needs To Look After Virat Kohli, Says Ex-England Captain

While nothing is officially confirmed, the cricketing world awaits updates on Kohli's status as India prepares for the crucial Test in Rajkot on February 15. The absence of Kohli, known for his intense contests with James Anderson, adds an element of uncertainty to the series. Anderson has dismissed Kohli seven times, making their encounters a much-anticipated aspect of Test cricket.

However, Hussain reckoned that Kohli's personal and private life has to come first.

"But first things first, the game needs to look after the likes of Virat Kohli as well. He’s been playing international cricket for more than 15 years now and if he needs a break to be away with family, get some time away from the game, we absolutely wish Virat Kohli all the best. If it means we don’t get the mouth-watering possibility of an Anderson versus Kohli contest that we’ve seen over the years, then so be it. But Kohli, and his family and his private life has to come first,"  Kohli said.
