Virat Kohli Criticizes Broadcasters: 'Focus On The Game, Not My Food'

Virat Kohli criticized broadcasters for highlighting his food choices instead of cricket, emphasizing that the focus should remain on the game.

Former India skipper Virat Kohli recently called out broadcasters for prioritizing discussions about his favorite food over the game. The former India captain urged them to focus on cricket instead of trivial topics like his meals.

During the 2025 Ranji Trophy, Virat Kohli having chilli paneer for lunch went viral. He also highlighted a similar incident from the 2023 India's tour to Australia (Border-Gavaskar Trophy), where his food preferences drew unnecessary attention.

Kohli calls out broadcasters: 'Focus on game, not my lunch'

"We are working towards India becoming a sports-forward nation. We have the vision. We have the groundwork happening today. It should be a collective responsibility of everyone involved. It’s not just about the infrastructure or the people who infuse the money. It’s also about the people who watch. We need education," Virat Kohli said at the RCB Innovation Lab Indian Sports Summit.

"A broadcast show needs to talk about the game and not what I ate yesterday for lunch or my favourite chhole-bhature place in Delhi. You can’t have that in cricket matches. Rather, you could talk about what an athlete is going through," he added.

Kohli's retirement: A U-Turn on cards?

Virat Kohli hinted at a possible return from T20 International retirement under one condition. He jokingly stated that if cricket is included in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, he might consider coming out of retirement for a single match.

"I actually don't know what I will be doing post-retirement. Recently, I asked a teammate the same question and got the same reply. Yeah, but there may be a lot of travelling," Virat Kohli said at the RCB Innovation Lab Indian Sports Summit on Saturday, March 15.

Kohli was asked: "Can't we coax you out of retirement?"

He replied: "No. For the Olympics? Maybe? If we are playing for the gold medal, I may come back for one game (laughs). Get a medal and come back home. It is a great thing. To be an Olympic champion would be a magnificent feeling, the first of its kind."
