'Unlucky Shubman Gill': Twitter Reacts As Indian Opener Is Adjudged 'Caught Out' In Contentious Decision By Third Umpire In WTC Final

Shubman Gill was given out 'caught' in the WTC final against Australia at the Oval in London on Saturday.

Even though Australia seemingly do have the upper hand in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final against India at the Oval in London, the way the Indian batters have started off proceedings in the final innings of the summit clash, needing a record 444 to win, has made things interesting. First the Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill looked positive right from the word go and did not go into a shell which is very often what batters find themselves doing when win seems a bleak possibility.

Both batters played a range of strokes and found a flurry of boundaries in the first few overs with the Indian captain even smashing a six off a Mitchell Starc bouncer, not attempting to keep his trademark pull shot along the ground but backing his strength and getting a maximum. However, just before the tea break a contentious decision went against India when Gill had to walk back to the pavilion, given out caught by the third umpire off the bowling of Scott Boland.

While there was no doubt that Cameron Green had caught him clearly, a particular frame from the replays was doubtful as it appeared that the ball might have touched the ground as the catch was being completed. Several reactions have gone viral on social media with former India cricketers and experts also airing their views.
