Umesh Yadav's 2nd innings three-for creates platform for india's victory; WI - 76/6 at tea

India were well on course for another comprehensive home series victory after reducing West Indies to 76 for 6 at tea

After hobbling against West Indies’ lethal bowling attack, India made a stunning comeback in the post-lunch session as they send 6 Caribbean batsmen packing to the dressing room. Extending a lead of just 20 runs, the visitors managed to post 76 runs in 27 overs at a cost of six wickets. Sunil Ambris was batting on 20 while skipper Jason Holder remained unbeaten on 4.

In reply to India’s 56 run lead, West Indies repeated the performance they showcased in Rajkot with the bat. Umesh Yadav missed the opportunity to take a hat-trick in the very first ball but compensated that loss right in the second ball. He removed opener Kraig Braithwaite on a 2-ball duck.

2 overs later, Ashwin came into the attack and he hunted Kieran Powell down on a 9 ball duck. Ajinkya Rahane made no mistake in taking a superb catch at the slips and West Indies were reduced to 6/2.

Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer then took the charge to pile up runs on the board and stitched a partnership of 39 runs before Kuldeep Yadav threw his hat to claim a wicket. Failing to miss the turn, Hetmyer went down the line and a simple catch was grabbed by Pujara at backward point.

After Umesh, Ashwin and Kuldeep, it was Jadeja’s turn who didn’t leak any further run before dismissing Shai hope on 28.

A few overs ahead of the tea break, Virat Kohli handed over the ball to Umesh again who, in return, didn’t disappoint his captain. In the last ball of the 25th over, he rattled the stumps of Roston Chase for the second time in the game.

Umesh, in the very first ball of his next over, got rid of wicketkeeper Shame Dowrich in a similar way as he bowled Chase out.

Earlier, Pant missed out on a well-deserved hundred for the second successive time as West Indies bowled out India for 367 at the stroke of lunch. In a space of 16.1 overs, India lost five wickets for 25 runs to move from a comfortable 314 for 4 to 339 for 9 before Ravichandran Ashwin (35 of 83 balls) made a useful contribution.

His innings, along with the last wicket partnership of 28 runs with an injured Shardul Thakur, could prove to be important in the larger context of the match.

West Indies captain Jason Holder (5/56 in 23 overs) used the second new ball to good effect as he completed his fifth five-wicket haul in Test cricket. Shannon Gabriel, after yesterday's erratic performance, came back well to take 3/107 in 20.4 overs.
