Third Umpire Presses Wrong Button During Melbourne Stars vs Sydney Sixers BBL Match- WATCH
Even though the batter was not out, third umpire initially pressed the wrong button 'out' before rectifying his mistake.
While there have been several moments of cricketing brilliance during the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL), an incident which has now gone viral on social media is not related to a moment of excellence by a player but a blunder made from the third-umpire. It all unfolded in the match between the Melbourne Stars and Sydney Sixers on January 6.
In the third over of the Sixers' run chase, James Vince played a shot straight back at the bowler Imad Wasim. However, the bowler got a hand to the ball before it went on to hit the stumps. There was a run-out appeal but replays showed that batter Josh Phillipe had managed to get back within the crease on time. However, it was here that third umpire Paul Wilson made a blunder and pressed the 'out' button. He later realised his mistake and changed it to 'not out'.
The video of the incident was shared by BBL on its social media.

Sydney Sixers End Up Winning The Match By 7 Wickets
While Phillipe survived the umpiring blunder, he was eventually cleaned up by Scott Boland in the next over and got out for nine off eight. However, despite his failure with the bat Sydney Sixers ended up winning the match by 7 wickets. While Stars batted first and scored 156-4 in their 20 overs, in the run chase it was the efforts of James Vince (79 off 57) and Daniel Hughes (41 from 32) which took them over the line, finishing the match with 11 balls to spare. Jordan Silk (13 off 8) and captain Moises Henriques (8 off 5) remained unbeaten in the end. Todd Murphy also played a crucial role in setting up this win for the team, scalping 2 wickets for 15 runs in his 4 overs.
