'That Is Something I Learned When Virat Was Captaining': Skipper Rohit Sharma Credits Virat Kohli After Winning The First Test Vs AUS
Rohit Sharma then replaced Kohli as India’s full-fledged skipper in 2022 and gave credit to the 34-year-old for helping him with his leadership skills.
Under the leadership of Virat Kohli, the Indian team have won a few series in Australia. The team also played the final of ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final in 2021. When Kohli was leading the side, India produced an aggressive style of cricket and sometimes they were unplayable. Rohit Sharma then replaced Kohli as India’s full-fledged skipper in 2022 and gave credit to the 34-year-old for helping him with his leadership skills.
"When I was playing as a player, Virat was captaining then. I noticed one thing that, no matter if we don't get a wicket, but that pressure has to be there so that the opposition makes a mistake. That is something I learned when Virat was captaining and these guys were bowling. That is what I try to do now, apply that pressure, don't expect wicket every ball, just keep putting the ball in the right areas. Let the pitch help you," Rohit said at the post-match press conference.
The first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy had ended within 3 days with the duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja scalping 16 of the 20 wickets. The second Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy is all set to be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi beginning on February 17.
