Team India World Cup Victory Parade In Mumbai Leads To Several Fans Getting Injured In Chaotic Revelry

Team India's victory parade from Marine Drive to the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai led to massive crowding of fans resulting in several fans getting injured during chaotic celebrations.

Mumbai witnessed a massive crowd gathering during Team India’s victory parade in an open-top bus from Marine Drive to the Wankhede Stadium on July 4 upon Indian team’s return from Barbados after winning the T20 World Cup 2024 trophy. While the day was filled with a celebratory atmosphere among fans and the Indian team, there were unfortunate incidents as well, with several fans getting injured during the parade.

Approximately 300,000 supporters gathered to catch a glimpse of their cricketing heroes during the victory parade to celebrate Team India's historic T20 World Cup win. The massive crowding resulted in several injuries. Some fans reportedly fainted and others experienced breathing difficulties as the crowd jostled to catch a glimpse of their World Cup heroes.

Viral Video Shows A Fainted Woman Being Carried By Cop Away From Crowd 

After the event, Marine Drive was littered with slippers and cars had dented roofs, evidence of the chaotic scene. Witnesses reported that fans climbed onto car roofs, dancing in celebration and causing damage. 

In a widely circulated video from Team India's victory parade, a police officer was captured carrying a woman who had seemingly fainted, likely due to suffocation, away from the crowded area.

Chaos During Team India's Victory Parade In Mumbai

An eyewitness, Ravi Solanki, as reported by Hindustan Times described chaos at the event to ANI. Expecting the Indian team's arrival between 5 pm and 6 pm, the crowd grew unchecked. He criticised police management, noting that disorder escalated around 8:15-8:45 pm, leading to people shouting and falling amid chaotic conditions.

"I was coming from the office and came to know that the Indian team would reach here between 5 pm-6 pm which did not happen. The crowd kept increasing. The police were not managing the situation. People suddenly started shouting, after which some people fell on each other. It was very unorganised. There was nobody to manage. The incident happened between 8:15-8:45 pm," said the witness to ANI as per a Hindustan Times report.

Rishab Mahesh Yadav, speaking to ANI, described falling unconscious during the victory parade due to the increasing crowd and feeling choked. He received treatment at a nearby hospital and has since recovered. He criticised the excessive crowd and cited mismanagement, noting that police were not alert during the incident.
