A tragic accident in Bikaner, Rajasthan, claimed the life of national powerlifting champion and gold medalist Yashtika Acharya. A heartbreaking video of the incident has surfaced on social media, capturing the tragic moment that led to Yashtika's untimely demise.
While training at a gym, she attempted a 270-kg squat under her coach's supervision. Unfortunately, she lost her balance, causing the heavy barbell to slip and fall on her neck, resulting in a fatal injury.
According to reports, Yashtika was given CPR on the spot in an attempt to revive her. She was then rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention. However, despite all efforts, doctors declared her dead upon arrival.
Yashtika Acharya, a promising athlete from Bikaner's Acharya Chowk area, had brought pride to the nation with her achievements. Her untimely passing is a huge loss to Indian sports.

Yashtika Acharya's recent gold medal win
Yashtika demonstrated her strength and skill by winning gold at the 29th Rajasthan State Sub-Junior and Senior Men and Women Equipped Bench Press Championship in Alwar, organized by the Rajasthan State Powerlifting Association. She also claimed gold in the Equipped category and silver in the Classic category at the 33rd National Bench Press Championship in Goa.
Passion for Powerlifting runs in the Family
Yashtika’s father, Aishwarya Acharya (50), is a contractor, and she had three sisters, one of whom is also a powerlifter. While the family has reportedly not filed any legal complaint regarding her tragic death, the police have launched an independent investigation into the incident.
