T20 World Cup 2024: Sese Bau Becomes Papua New Guinea's First Ever T20 World Cup Half-Centurion

T20 World Cup 2024: The minnows are making their gameplay talk the talk in this year's edition, as Sese Bau achieves iconic milestone against West Indies. Here are the details.

T20 World Cup 2024: Papua New Guinea batsman Sese Bau has created history by becoming the first-ever batsman from the country to score a T20 World Cup half-century. The left-handed batsman achieved the feat during Papua New Guinea's debut T20 World Cup match against co-hosts West Indies on Sunday, June 2, and guided his side to a respectable and fightable total of 136 on a really tough surface of Guyana.

"I started off slow but built the innings well and finished out well. Its my first half century in the T20 World Cup so quite stoked. The pitch was pretty slow but got harder throughout the end. Bowlers need to stick to what they do best. Stick to the plans and defend the total," said Sese Bau during innings break interview.

However, his effort went in vain as West Indies scripted a hard-fought victory over the associate nation and with that, opened their account for points this T20 World Cup. Roston Chase was the difference maker, as his innings guided the Caribbeans past the target.

Here's What 'Man Of The Match' Roston Chase Said During Post Match Presentation Ceremony

"Yeah, I'm very pleased. To start the tournament with a win is always good. Well, I always knew that it was hard for the batter coming in to start. I gave myself some time and backed myself. I watched the PNG batters. They got going once they spend some time in the middle. So, I backed my skills," said Chase.

"We have been putting in a lot of hard work. We have had a camp in Antigua and we have been working hard. PNG are not a less team. We won't be taking any team lightly. They are here means they are a quality team. We had a chat at the halfway stage to rally around and bring out the best game," he added.
