South Africa captain Faf du Plessis found guilty of ball tampering

Adelaide: South African skipper Faf du Plessis has been found guilty of ball tampering by International Cricket Council for altering the condition of the ball but is cleared to play in the day-night Test at Adelaide.

Faf du Plessis faced a marathon three hours hearing with match refree Andy Pycroft at Adelaide stadium on Tuesday afternoon. The Proteas skipper has been charged for breaching ICC law ‘42.3’ by ICC CEO Dave Richardson.

Du Plessis pleaded not guilty but was charged with 100 percent match fees. The match refree had an option to suspend the South African skipper for a game but Pycroft opted ‘No’.

The 32-year-old has been fined earlier for ball tampering during a Test match in 2013. Du Plessis has 48 hours to appeal the verdict
