Shikhar Dhawan's Big Warning To Vaibhav Suryavanshi

Vaibhav Suryavanshi's performance in IPL 2025 had already earned him recognition, but now, ahead of IPL 2026, the young prodigy has caught the attention — and concern — of Shikhar Dhawan.

Bihar’s young cricket sensation, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, has taken the cricketing world by storm at just 14 years of age.

Currently representing India U-19 on the tour of England, Vaibhav recently made headlines with a blazing knock of 86 runs off just 31 balls in the final match of the series.

His stellar performance in IPL 2025 had already earned him recognition, but now, ahead of IPL 2026, the young prodigy has caught the attention — and concern — of former India opener Shikhar Dhawan.

Dhawan’s Message: Handle Fame

Speaking to Hindustan Times in a recent interview, Shikhar Dhawan praised the youngster but also issued a word of caution.

“How old is he, 13 or 14? To be playing in the IPL at the age of 14 is truly remarkable. The way he faced top bowlers and stood tall against some of the biggest names in world cricket at such a young age was impressive. His confidence while hitting those big shots was amazing. Thanks to the IPL, our kids now have the opportunity to dream of making it into a top team from as young as five. Vaibhav has turned that dream into reality. He’s achieved it, and it’s a huge achievement for him and his family. It’s a very proud moment for all of us in cricket. To see a 14-year-old dominating in such a big league is unbelievable,” Dhawan told Hindustan Times.

Dhawan added that Vaibhav was lucky to have Rahul Dravid and Vikram Rathour as mentors during IPL 2025, as they helped keep the youngster grounded amidst all the limelight.

He further warned:

“The real challenge for him will be how he manages the fame, the attention, and the money that come with it. One of the blessings he’s had is being in great hands, with Rahul Bhai and Vikram Paji (coaches of Rajasthan Royals). They are not just excellent cricketers but also focus on shaping good human beings. It’s crucial to be a good person, not just a good cricketer.”
