Unfair To Draw Comparisons Between Rohit and Sehwag, Believes Sachin Tendulkar

"I would say there should be no comparisons. Both Sehwag and Rohit are fantastic players. But I am not a big fan of comparisons personally," the Master Blaster said in an interview.

Rohit Sharma opening the innings against South Africa in the 3-match series opener at Visakapatnam was the main talking point around the cricketing circles in India since the build up to the game. Right from die-hard cricket fans, spectators, pundits to even Rohit's former colleagues had their eyes glued on how the 'Hitman' will fare in his debut as Test opener. Rohit  made a stellar start to his Test sojourn as opener by registering a magnificent ton, and helping the hosts post 502-7 in their first innings, leaving the cricket fraternity and fans impressed with his performance. Rohit's power packed innings reminded many fans of former Indian swashbuckling opener Virender Sehwag, as right handed stroke-makers knock has shades of the attacking instinct and belligerent stroke-play for which 'Viru' was known and stamped a class of his own. The legendary Sachin Tendulkar, who from close quarters watched Sehwag bloom as a terrific openers in both forms of the game , recently gave his take on the comparisons between Rohit and the former Indian opener after the latter's 176-run-knock against the Proteas. Sachin remained close guarded and refuses to draw comparisons between the two batting greats but was off the opinion that Rohit had all the talent and skills required to bat in Tests in any conditions around the world.
"I would say there should be no comparisons. Both Sehwag and Rohit are fantastic players. But I am not a big fan of comparisons personally," the Master Blaster said in an interview.
"But when it comes to talent, I have no doubt that he can get runs against any attack in any conditions in the world. He has proven every now and then but the change in position to opening slot requires a different mindset and over a period of time he will gel into this position. He has started with a huge explosion," he added.
"Sehwag had that different mindset. Be it a ODI or Test, he would more or less play in the same manner. That aggressive nature was always there. Again, it boils down to the capability and the potential of that particular player," said Tendulkar.
Tendulkar also added that a lot of players are not able to keep up the aggression and we'll have to wait and see how this turns out to be for Rohit Sharma.
