Rohit Sharma Pens Heartfelt Letter For 'Workwife' Rahul Dravid, India's Outgoing Head Coach, After T20 World Cup Win

Rohit Sharma, India's T20 World Cup-winning captain, called India's outgoing head coach his 'workwife' in a heartfelt letter.

Rohit Sharma, India's T20 World Cup-winning captain, has shared a heartltfelt letter for Rahul Dravid, India's outgoing head coach, lauding the former India cricketer for his humility and his ability to create an environment where everyone could come and share everything. While Rohit had made his India debut in a One-Day International (ODI) in which Dravid was the captain, the two led India to a T20 World Cup title in 2024 undefeated, after narrowly missing out on winning the ODI World Cup 2023, losing the final after winning six matches in a row.

"Dear Rahul bhai, I have been trying to find the right words to properly express my feelings on this but I'm not sure I ever will so here's my attempt," Rohit wrote on Instagram, sharing a series of pictures with him.

"Since my childhood days I have looked up to you just like billions of others but I was lucky enough to get to work with you this closely. You are an absolute stalwart of this game but you left all of your accolades and achievements at the door and walked in as our coach and came on a level where we all felt comfortable enough to say just about anything to you. That is your gift, your humility and your love for this game even after all this time. I have learnt so much from you and every memory will be cherished," he added.

"My wife refers to you as my work wife and I'm lucky to get to call you that too," Rohit wrote.

"This was the only thing missing from your arsenal and I'm so happy that we got to achieve it together. Rahul bhai it has been an absolute privilege to get to call you my confidant, my coach and my friend."

'The Best Phone Call I Received in My Life': Dravid On Rohit's Call After ODI World Cup Final Defeat

Earlier, Dravid termed the phone call he received from Rohit after the team's ODI World Cup final loss as the best call he had received in his life. Notably, Rohit had called Dravid and covinced him to give the T20 World Cup a shot together after Australia snatched India's World Cup glory in November last year and Dravid was due to leave as the head coach.

"I wasn't really sure, if I was going to continue after the 50 overs World Cup and obviously there was a great joy of having had a fantastic ODI World Cup, but also the disappointment of not crossing the line was there. For Rohit to pick up the phone to me and say Rahul lets have one more crack at it in 6 or eight months time. It will be lovely to have a crack together," Dravid said at Team India's felicitation ceremony at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
