Rohit Sharma Named Captain Of ICC Men's ODI Team Of The Year 2023

Rohit Sharma, following an outstanding World Cup performance, has been appointed as the captain of the ICC Men's ODI Team of the Year.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the ICC Men's ODI Team of the Year for 2023, with Indian team captain Rohit Sharma chosen as the skipper. The lineup is predominantly filled with Indian players, six in total, including two Australians, two South Africans, and one New Zealander. Rohit Sharma, owing to his outstanding leadership and batting performances in 2023, has been appointed as the captain of this elite team. 

During the course of the year, Rohit Sharma demonstrated his cricketing prowess by accumulating an impressive total of 1255 runs at an average of 52. His standout performance came during the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup, where he played a remarkable innings of 131 against Afghanistan in Delhi. In addition to Rohit Sharma, Indian opening batsman Shubman Gill has secured a position in the ICC Men's Team of the Year. ICC ODI Team of the Year 2023: Dominated by six Indians

At number four is Travis Head, who enjoyed a dream run in 2023, shining especially during the crucial stages of the 50-over World Cup in India. Travis Head's stellar performances in the 2023 World Cup, including a crucial half-century and two wickets in the semi-final, followed by a remarkable 137 in the final, played a pivotal role in Australia's successful campaign, securing their record sixth title.

Virat Kohli, another stalwart in Indian cricket, maintained a consistent performance throughout the 12 months, accumulating a total of 1377 runs, including six centuries. Notably, his achievements in 2023 included breaking Sachin Tendulkar's record for the most international centuries during India's World Cup campaign, earning him the prestigious Player of the Tournament award. Kohli also emerged as 2023 ICC Men's ODI World Cup's highest run-getter with 765 run in 11 innings.

Daryl Mitchell secures the fifth spot, concluding the year as the fourth-highest run-scorer with 1204 runs at an average of 52.34. Heinrich Klassen, with three tons and two half-centuries, is wicket-keeper in the team, while Marco Jansen secures a spot as a bowling all-rounder. Adam Zampa, with 38 wickets at an average of 26.31, and the trio of Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, and Mohammed Shami, the top three leading wicket-takers in ODIs in 2023, form the formidable bowling attack in the ICC Men's ODI Team of the Year 2023.
