Rachin Ravindra's Father Clarifies New Zealand Star Was Not Named After Sachin Tendulkar And Rahul Dravid

Rachin's father, who had migrated from Bengaluru to New Zealand, revealed that the name was actually suggested by his wife.

Young New Zealand cricketer Rachin Ravindra has been a standout performer in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023. While this happens to be his debut World Cup, he has played with maturity and consistency and has taken the tournament by storm, scoring three hundreds on the team's way to securing a place in the semifinals. However, while it was popularly believed that his name was derived from the first names of Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar, his father has made a fascinating revelation.

Rachin's father, who had migrated from Bengaluru to New Zealand, revealed that the name was actually suggested by his wife and it was only later that they realised that it was actually a blend of the names- Rahul and Sachin. The current Kiwi star was not intentionally named after the Indian batting stars.

"When Rachin was born, my wife suggested the name, and we didn’t spend a lot of time discussing it. The name sounded good, was easy to spell, and short, so we decided to go with it. It was only some years later that we realised the name was a mix of Rahul and Sachin’s names. He wasn’t named with the intention to make our child a cricketer or anything of the sort," Ravi Krishnamurthy, Ravindra’s father told The Print.

"As parents, our hopes for our children extend to any field they choose to pursue. When Rachin expressed an interest in cricket, we supported him wholeheartedly and hoped he would excel in it, just as we would for our daughter in her chosen path," he added.

IND vs NZ In ODI World Cup Semi Final

Meanwhile, New Zealand are all set to lock horns against India in the first semifinal of the World Cup. This is a repeat of the 2019 semifinals. However, while on that occasion the match was held in Manchester and the BlackCaps had emerged victorious, this time around, India would like to have the last laugh especially after having already thrashed them once earlier in the tournament. The knock-out fixture will be played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Wednesday (November 15).
