The Government of India revealed the list of Padma Award recipients on Saturday, January 25, which included five distinguished sports personalities among the honorees.

Ravichandran Ashwin, widely regarded as one of the finest spinners of modern cricket, was honored with the Padma Shri. The legendary off-spinner recently announced his retirement from international cricket in the middle of Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.

Alongside Ashwin, football icon IM Vijayan, Paralympic archer Harvinder Singh, and veteran coach Satyapal Singh were also recipients of the Padma Shri. Former Indian hockey goalkeeper PR Sreejesh received the prestigious Padma Bhushan. These esteemed awards are set to be presented on the eve of Republic Day.

Ravichandran Ashwin was honored with the Padma Shri for his exceptional contributions to cricket. As India's leading wicket-taker in Test cricket with 537 wickets from 106 matches, Ashwin has solidified his legacy as one of the finest spinners in modern-day cricket.

PR Sreejesh, regarded as one of India's greatest hockey goalkeepers, was conferred with the Padma Bhushan. Sreejesh played a crucial role in India's back-to-back Olympic bronze medals, including the recent one in Paris.

Announcing his retirement before the Paris Olympics, he ensured his final Olympic appearance was memorable. Following his retirement, Sreejesh has taken up the role of head coach for India's junior men's hockey team, continuing to contribute to the future of hockey in India.

Harvinder Singh, who secured India's 4th gold medal at Paris Paralympics 2024 in Men's Individual Recurve Open final, has been honored with the Padma Shri award.

Also receiving the Padma Shri is IM Vijayan, the legendary footballer who captained the Indian national team from 2000 to 2004, for his outstanding contributions to Indian football.
