Astounding Price Tag Of MS Dhoni's Iconic 2011 World Cup Bat Is...
The bat with which MS Dhoni scored the iconic 2011 World Cup-winning six was reportedly sold for a massive amount.
While there are several staggering records that MS Dhoni boasts of, if there is one innings that will always be remembered long after he has retired from all forms of cricket including the Indian Premier League (IPL), it will be his knock in the 2011 ODI World Cup final. The wicketkeeper-batter, despite having an underwhelming tournament up until the summit clash, promoted himself ahead of an in-form Yuvraj Sungh and delivered at the greatest stage of all.
Dhoni remained unbeaten on 91 in that match, a score which made from 79 deliveries, famously hitting a six off Nuwan Kulasakera to finish things off and help India lift the World Cup after 28 years. Interestingly, the bat with which he played that shot which is easily one of the most replayed and rewatched shot in Indian cricket history holds the record for being the most expensive bat. The bat was auctioned at MS Dhoni’s ‘East Meets West’ Charity Dinner in London.
A die-hard Dhoni fan went all out in the bidding war to get the bat for £100,000 (approximately 1 crore Indian rupee) to win the bat. However, it was later reported that the buyers were actually a company named RK Global Shares and Securties Ltd (India). Talking about Dhoni, the legendary cricketer has hung up his playing boots as far as international cricket is concerned but continues to ply his trade in the IPL. He led the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to their record-equalling fifth IPL title in May.
While the stumper struggled with a knee injury throughout the 2023 edition of the tournament, he underwent a surgery in Mumbai days after the tournament was over. The 42-year-old has promised to return for the next season but a final call on whether he will be available next season will be taken closer to the mini-auction depending upon how his body copes with the surgery and whether it will be ready for the load of another packed season of the IPL.
