Mohammad Azharuddin Appears Before ED In Money Laundering Case

Mohammad Azharuddin has appeared before ED in Hyderabad.

Mohammed Azharuddin, the former Indian men's cricket team captain and Congress leader, has appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Hyderabad. Azharuddin had been summoned in relation to a money laundering case. The news of the ex-cricketer appearing before the law enforcement agency was confirmed by PTI citing officials.

Notably, Azharuddin was summoned by ED on October 3 but did not appear on that day and requested for more time. The former India skipper was asked to appear on October 8. Azharduddin previously held the position of the president of the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) and is accused of of misappropriation of funds during his tenure in the state cricket association body from 2019 to 2023.

Mohammad Azharuddin Allegedly Misappropriated Sum Of Rs 20 Crore During His Time As HCA President

A sum of Rs 20 crore which was intended for the procurement of diesel generators and firefighting systems among other amenties for the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad has apparently been misappropriated by Azharuddin.

Azharuddin donned India colours from 1984 to 2000. He captained the Indian team from 1989 to 1999. In 47 Test matches in which he was the captain of the team, India ended up on the winning side on 14 occasions.

Under his captaincy, India lost 14 Tests with 19 matches ending in a draw. In One Day Internationals (ODIs), Azhar captained India in 174 matches where he won as captain on 90 occasions while facing a defeat in 76 of them.
