Sri Lanka On Cusp Of History At Stumps, Day 3
In the previous meeting between the sides at the very same venue, it was the Lankan Lions that walked out victorious. At the Kennigton Oval, England and Sri Lanka have only faced each other once, and this marks their second meeting at the venue.
In a series where England have all but dominated the visistors in every department, the current situation in the 3rd Test match depicts otherwise, as a batting collapse from the home side in the 3rd innings helped Sri Lanka set themselves a target of less than 250.
In their defence of 219, England were off to a rough start, as Sri Lankan openers started scoring at rapid pace, and the bulk of the scoring was done by the in-form Pathum Nissanka.
Dimuth Karunaratne had his share of history on Day 3 as well, as he became only the fourth Sri Lankan batsman to score 7000+ Test International runs, but ends his England tour with merely 108 runs in 6 innings, at an average of 18, and one fifty to his name.
At Stumps on Day 3, Sri Lanka's scorecard reads at 94/1 and need only 125 more runs to win and deny England their 6th successive Test victory.
