Jay Shah To Remain BCCI Secy, Roger Binny Set To Replace Sourav Ganguly: Report

Former India cricketer Roger Binny is tipped to become BCCI president replacing Sourav Ganguly and Maharashtra BJP MLA Ashish Shelar is considered a favourite to become BCCI Treasurer.

Ahead of the nominations to be filed for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) office bearer's post, speculations are rife that the current BCCI secretary Jay Shah will continue at his post, while Sourav Ganguly will have to demit office as BCCI president.

Former India cricketer Roger Binny is tipped to become BCCI president replacing Sourav Ganguly and Maharashtra BJP MLA Ashish Shelar is considered a favourite to be the BCCI treasurer post replacing Arun Dhumal, ANI reported citing sources. In the midst, Jay Shah is considered to hold his office.

Shah will also replace Ganguly as India's representative at the all powerful ICC Board, PTI reported. Rajeev Shukla will continue as BCCI vice president while sports minister Anurag Thakur's younger brother Arun Singh Dhumal will become IPL chairman. He will replace Brijesh Patel.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's close aide Devajit Saikia will replace Jayesh George as the new joint secretary, PTI reported.

Sourav Ganguly, who was elevated to the post of BCCI President in 2019, if not given a chance to hold the office for a second term may come as surprise to a few as BCCI reached out to Supreme Court to amend the constitution to relax the cooling off period. It was considered that the move is to aid the smooth re-election of Ganguly and Shah to their existing BCCI posts.

Roger Binny has served as the senior national men's team selector in the past and was on the panel when the squad for the 2015 World Cup was picked. Binny, who played an integral role in India's 1983 World Cup triumph, played 27 Tests and 72 ODIs for India between 1979 and 1987.

The BCCI AGM is to take place on October 18, while the nominations for office bearers can be filed on October 11 and 12. The scrutiny of the nominations will take place on October 13 and the candidates can withdraw their nominations latest by October 14.

The election is to be held for top offices of BCCI — President, Vice President, Secretary, Jt secretary, Treasurer and IPL chairman.
