Jasprit Bumrah Sets Multiple Records On Day 4 of Boxing Day Test, Surpasses Kumble & Ashwin In Historic Milestones

Jasprit Bumrah, who is currently ranked number one in the Test bowling rankings, shattered an all-time record held by Anil Kumble and surpassed Ravichandran Ashwin in an exclusive list.

Jasprit Bumrah led the stellar fightback by India on Day 4 (December 29) of the ongoing India vs Australia Boxing Day Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 at MCG. Bumrah, by taking four wickets on Day 4 became the fastest Indian pacer to achieve the milestone of 200 Test wickets. He also became the only bowler ever to have taken 200 Test wickets with an average below 20, establishing his legacy as an all-time great already.

By taking 200 wickets in 44 Tests, Bumrah joined cricket legends such as Pat Cummins, Ravindra Jadeja, Kagiso Rabada, Richard Hadlee and Joel Garner. In terms of balls bowled to reach the milestone, Bumrah ranks as the fourth-fastest to achieve 200 Test wickets.

Jasprit Bumrah, currently ranked number one in the Test bowling rankings, also broke an all-time record of Anil Kumble and also surpassed the recently-retired Ravichandran Ashwin in an elite list.

Indian Bowlers With Most Wickets In SENA Countries

The star Indian cricketer now also holds the record for the most Test wickets by an Indian in SENA countries (South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia) with 142 wickets. He surpassed Anil Kumble, who had taken 141 wickets in these countries.

Bumrah, who has 29 wickets in the BGT series, also moved past R Ashwin’s tally of bowler with most wickets in a single World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. The pacer has 74 wickets in the current WTC 2023-25 cycle.
