IPL 2020 To Be Atma Nirbhar? Tata Sons Emerge Top Contenders For Title Sponsorship

BCCI will make the final formal announcement on August 18, Tuesday. Interestingly, Tata Sons have earlier never showed interest in cricket sponsorship.

Following Chinese smartphone makers Vivo's exit from the title sponsorship of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 in the wake of Indo-China clash at the Galwan valley, Board of Control for Cricket In India (BCCI) have been on the lookout for a new title sponsor as mandated by its constitution. Among several names mulling a proposal to the Board of Control for Cricket in India, firms like Amazon, Patanjali, Tata, Jio and Byju's, Tata Sons are currently leading the race in bid for the IPL title sponsorship of the mega sports event for this year.

BCCI will make the final formal announcement on August 18, Tuesday. Interestingly, Tata Sons have earlier never showed interest in cricket sponsorship.

Earlier, it was reported that World's fourth richest man, Mukesh Ambani-led Jio was considered to be the front runners in the race for the IPL title sponsorship.

Amid the anti-China sentiment in the nation, the previous partner Vivo-BCCI partnership ended abruptly as India's apex cricketing board suspended the deal with Chinese mobile phone company on August 6.

As per reports, Vivo won the IPL title sponsorship rights for five years (2018-2022) for Rs 2,190 crore, approximately Rs 440 crore per annum.

Meanwhile, IPL 2020 is all set to take place from September 19 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), outside India, due to the Covid-19 situation in the country. The final game of the 53-day tournament will take place on 10 November.

To minimize the traveling of players in the wake of the fast-spreading infection, BCCI Governing council have decided to use Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah as the three venues.
