IPL 2020: Languishing At Bottom Of Points Table, Can CSK Still Make It To The Play-Offs Amid All Hopes Dashed?
With millions of ardent fans and their skipper MS Dhoni resigning to the fact that their team is out of the race for securing a play-off berth, there still is the minutest of possibilities that the rock bottom-placed 'Yellow Army' could sneak into the knockouts.
The faces were dismayed , shoulders drooped and the body language did not look one of a champion side as 3-time winners CSK lost their eight game to defending champions Mumbai Indians in the ongoing thirteenth edition of the IPL and virtually dashed their hopes of securing a play-off berth.
Millions of fans of the 'Whistle Podu' brigade and the CSK players themselves have been hugely disappointed by the way things have unfolded for the 'Yellow Army' in the newer landscape and challenging conditions on offer in the middle east nation of the Persian Gulf
Not having CSK in the play-offs of an IPL Season is as big a notable absentee as 'King of the Clay' Rafael Nadal not getting through to the latter half at French Open. However, they have been a pale shadow of their glorious past and often ended up being the second best side to formidable teams like Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians who stand comfortably placed at the of top of the IPL points table.

With millions of ardent fans and their skipper MS Dhoni thinking that their team is out of the race for securing a play-off berth, there still is the minutest of possibilities that the 'Yellow Army' could sneak into the knockouts.
It would just not take three wins for CSK in their remaining three fixtures of Season 13 but also hope that other teams slip up during the fag end of the league stage.
Here is how things stand from a statistical perspective and how CSK could still end up in the top four in the round robin stage and go through to the knockouts
CSK's Current Standing In The IPL 2020 Points Table
CSK are reeling at the bottom of the points table with just 3 wins from eleven round robin games in Season 13 of the IPL.
Upcoming fixtures for CSK in IPL 2020
Vs RCB on October 25 in Dubai
Vs KKR on October 29 in Dubai
Vs KXIP on November 1 in Abu Dhabi
CSK play Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings Eleven Punjab in the last three league assignments ..It might be notable that all these three teams are very much in contention of securing a play-off berth.
Where will CSK land up if they secure a hat-trick of wins
If we assume CSK stitched a hat-trick of wins by forging victories overs RCB, KXIP and KKR, they will get to 12 points but will that be enough to help them finish among the top four. The answer seems no more than yes.
The other headache which CSK have up their sleeves is a miserable run rate. Hence, even if they are tied with the same points at the fourth position, they would be hurt by their adverse run rate.
CSK would also hope all these permutations and combinations work in their favour for a miracle to happen and them qualifying for the play-offs
Kolkata Knight Riders, who occupy the 4th spot with 12 points in 11 games, should not even win one of their remaining 3 matches.
Vs KXIP on October 26 in Sharjah
Vs CSK on October 29 in Dubai
Vs RR on November 1 in Sharjah
CSK would also hope that Kings XI Punjab should beat KKR, lose their other 2 matches to Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings
Sunrisers Hyderabad would need to lose at least one of their next 2 matches against RCB and MI by a massive margin.
SRH's remaining fixtures
Vs Delhi Capitals on October 27 in Dubai
Vs Royal Challengers Bangalore on October 31 in Sharjah
Vs Mumbai Indians on November 3 in Sharjah
