IPL 2020: CSK's Watson-Du Plessis Opening Duo Break Numerous Records During 181-Run Record Partnership vs KXIP

CSK's all conquering over KXIP win came on the back of a record 181-run opening stand between their openers Shane Watson and Faf Du Plessis.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) shattered quite a few records in their emphatic 10-wicket win over Kings Eleven Punjab (KXIP) in Game 18 of the IPL 2020 played at the Dubai International Stadium in United Arab Emirates (UAE). CSK's all conquering over KXIP win came on the back of a record 181-run opening stand between their openers Shane Watson and Faf Du Plessis. The CSK openers cantered their team home against KXIP by pulling off a 179-run chase by registering the franchise's highest even opening partnership in the IPL. Watson (83* off 53) and Du Plessis (87 off 53) scored unbeaten half centuries in their 181-run opening stand, which happened to be not only the highest opening partnership but the also the highest ever stand for any wicket by CSK in the IPL. The third highest partnership for CSK in the IPL was registered between Murali Vijay and Albie Morkel (152 for third wicket) Highest partnerships for CSK in IPL: Shane Watson and Faf du Plessis- 181* (1st wicket) Mike Hussey and Murali Vijay- 159 (1st wicket) Murali Vijay and Albie Morkel-152 (3rd wicket) The 179-run chase pulled off by Watson and Du Plessis for CSK against KXIP also happened to be the second highest chase in IPL history without losing a wicket Highest targets chased down without losing a wicket in IPL: 184 - KKR vs GL (Rajkot 2017) 179 - CSK vs KXIP (Tonight) 163 - MI vs RR (Jaipur 2012) 155 - DCh vs MI (Mumbai 2008) CSK who had a horrid outing in the opening two weeks of the IPL by losing three out of their four games made a resounding comeback with a clinical win against KXIP. The 3-time champs also happened to be the first team to win a match at the Dubai International Stadium in the ongoing IPL season by chasing down a total.
