Yashasvi's gritty innings and his record-shattering 229-run partnership with skipper Rohit Sharma (103) for 1st wicket helped team India seize total control on the match. The 21-year-old talented youngster from Bhadohi became the 306th Test cricketer for team India upon receiving his maiden Test cap from captain Rohit Sharma. Scoring a ton in debut match helped Yashasvi attain many milestones.

The 21-year-old, who is currently batting unbeaten at 143 and will resume his innings on Day 3 of IND vs WI 1st Test, now holds the record for scoring maximum runs on Test debut at an overseas venue for India. Ganguly's 131 in IND vs ENG Lord's Test was the previous record.
