India Vs. Australia: A List Of All The Records That Were Broken In The Test Series
From breaching Australia’s fortress at Gabba to Rishabh Pant’s new milestone surpassing MS Dhoni, know what all records were broken during the series.
India vs. Australia was a Test series for the ages. It will be remembered in the same category as the Sharjah matches or the World Cup wins by India. Generations to come will be inspired by the fearless brand of cricket displayed by India’s young guns in the absence of some of India’s best players. The situation was somewhat like the inaugural T20 World Cup of 2007 when Team India was without its key senior players under a new and young captain MS Dhoni.
But there were quite a few records that were broken during the series, let’s have a look at some of them:
- Australia had never lost a Test match in 31 years at the Gabba, it took a young Indian team to breach the fortress. Last time the Aussies lost a Test was in 1988 against a West Indian side led by Sir. Viv Richards.

- The Gabba’s chase of 328 runs is the highest-ever that has been chased at the ground. Previous best was by West Indies when chased 236 to beat Australia in Brisbane in 1951.
- Rishabh Pant surpassed MS Dhoni and became the fastest Indian wicket-keeper to score 1000 runs in Test. Dhoni had completed 1000 runs in 32 matches while Pant did it in just 27.
- Pujara became the 11th Indian batsman to score 6000 runs in Tests. The list has great players like Tendulkar, Dravid, Ganguly, Gavaskar and others.
- Pujara and Pant added 148 runs for the 4th wicket in the third test, the highest fourth-innings fourth-wicket stand for India in Sydney, beating a 72-year-old Vijay Hazare and Rusi Modi record.
- Hanuma Vihari and R Ashwin played 256 balls in their sixth-wicket partnership, making it the longest fourth innings in Sydney in 42 years.
- Jadeja and Siraj’s partnership of 28 in the Sydney Test was the highest 10th wicket partnership in the Border Gavaskar Trophy.
- 128 balls faced by R Ashwin in the fourth innings - it ranks fifth on the list of most balls faced by an India No. 7 in the fourth innings.
