New Team India Head Coach To Assume Role In India vs Sri Lanka Series, Reveals BCCI Secretary Jay Shah

BCCI secretary Jay Shah announced that Team India's new head coach will commence his tenure starting from the Sri Lanka series in July.

Jay Shah, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary, announced on July 1 (Monday) that the Indian cricket team will see a new head coach appointed ahead of the upcoming limited-overs series in Sri Lanka later in the month of July, as per a PTI report. However, Shah did not disclose the name of Rahul Dravid's successor. India are slated to visit Sri Lanka in July, with the first match of the tour set to be played on July 27.

It is widely anticipated that former opener Gautam Gambhir will take over from Rahul Dravid as India's head coach. The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) has conducted interviews for the role and has short-listed Gambhir along with former India women's coach WV Raman.

Two Names Shortlisted For India Head Coach Job: Jay Shah

BCCI secretary Jay Shah stated to select media that appointments for both coach and selector will be finalised soon. The CAC has conducted interviews and shortlisted two candidates, and their decision upon returning to Mumbai will guide the final choice. Shah confirmed that VVS Laxman is heading to Zimbabwe, while the new coach will begin with the Sri Lanka series.

"Both coach and selector appointment will be made shortly. CAC has interviewed and shortlisted two names and after reaching Mumbai whatever they have decided we will go by that. VVS Laxman is going to Zimbabwe but new coach will join from Sri Lanka series," Shah told select media, as per PTI.

India To Visit Sri Lanka In July

India will embark on a white-ball series in Sri Lanka scheduled for July and August this year. The series will feature a three-match T20I series followed by a three-match ODI series between the two teams.

The tour will commence with the T20I series, starting with the first match on July 27, followed by games on July 28 and July 30.

After the T20Is, the teams will contest for an ODI series, beginning on August 2. The final two ODIs are scheduled for August 4 and August 7.
