Team India's New Head Coach Gautam Gambhir's Salary Yet To Be Finalised: Report

Gautam Gambhir is currently focused on formation of his preferred support staff as he prepares for his upcoming three-year tenure as India's head coach.

2011 ODI World Cup winner Gautam Gambhir was recently appointed as the head coach of India men's cricket team, replacing Rahul Dravid. According to PTI, his salary for the role has not been finalized yet. Gambhir's salary is expected to be similar to that of his predecessors, Rahul Dravid and Ravi Shastri.

While Gambhir may have received verbal assurance from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the formal agreement is reportedly yet to be signed.

"For Gautam, it was important that he took charge and salary and other stuff can be worked out as it's not going anywhere. It is similar to the case of Ravi Shastri in 2014 when he was first made Director of Cricket over head coach Duncan Fletcher," a BCCI source told PTI.

"The day Ravi joined, he didn't even have a contract and things worked out. In case of Gautam also, some finer details are being worked out. The salary will be in the same range of Rahul Dravid," he added.

The PTI report stated that Gautam Gambhir is currently least concerned about the financial details of his appointment as head coach. His primary focus is on assembling a support staff of his choice to prepare for his upcoming three-year tenure as India's head coach.

Gambhir will have his own team to work closely with, alongside the coaches at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.

"I look forward to working closely with the BCCI, Head of Cricket – Mr VVS Laxman, the support staff, and, most importantly, the players, as we work towards achieving success in the upcoming tournaments," Gambhir had said.

Speculations abound regarding Abhishek Nayar potentially joining Gautam Gambhir's core support staff. Nayar, known for his strategic role with KKR, is anticipated to come on board as the assistant coach for Team India.

Laxmipathy Balaji and Zaheer Khan are being considered as potential candidates for the role of bowling coach for Team India.
