BIZARRE! India Lose Last 6 Wickets On Same Score, First-Ever Instance In Test Cricket History

IND vs SA 2nd Test: In a bizarre turn of events, India lost their last six wickets for no runs going from 153/4 to 153 all out in response to South Africa's 55 on Day 1 of the second Test match.

In quite an eventful day at the Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town, India lost their six wickets at the same score to register a historic first in Test cricket. While India were leading South Africa by 98 runs with 6 wickets in hand and looked in complete control as they had the chance to take a massive lead and assert their dominance after an innings defeat in the series opener, they lost their last six wickets without the addition of a single run to get bowled out for 153.

All it took were 11 deliveries for India to completey lose the plot. While Lungi Ngidi got rid of KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah in a single over with a set Virat Kohli stranded at the other end, in the next over Kagiso Rabada got rid of Kohli and Mohammed Sirja was run out before Rabada got the better of Prasidh Krishna. This meant India could not take their lead past the 100-run mark. India were bowled out in 34.4 overs, implying the first two innings of the Test lasted only 349 balls which happens to be the second-fewest ever in Test cricket.

Earlier, South Africa were bowled out for just 55 runs, the lowest total by an opponent against India. Mohammed Siraj was the wrecker-in-chief, scalping 6 wickets for 15 runs in his 9 overs while Jasprit Bumrah and Mukesh Kumar scalped two wickets apiece. Their innings had lasted 23.2 overs after they elected to bat first.

Prior to the ongoing Test, 17 was the most number of wickets that had fallen on a single day at this Test venue which is now witnessing third innings of a Test match unfold all on Day 1 itself. India's innings also saw six batters got out without scoring, the joint-most by a team in a single innings in Test cricket history.
