IND vs ENG: Major Setback To India As Jadeja Faces An Injury Concern, Doubtful For Second Test- Here’s Why

India suffered a major injury concern during their defeat to England in the first Test match of the five-match series, as star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja appeared to suffer a hamstring injury.

England secured a 28-run victory over India in the first Test match in Hyderabad on January 28, taking a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. Despite India establishing a 190-run lead in the first innings against the Three Lions, England staged a remarkable comeback, fueled by Ollie Pope's exceptional innings of 196 and Tom Hartley's seven-wicket haul on Day 4. In pursuit of 231 runs to win in the fourth innings, Hartley's outstanding spell caused difficulties for India, leading to them getting all-out for 202. Adding to India's concerns is the uncertainty surrounding Ravindra Jadeja's participation in the second Test due to a hamstring injury.

It was a forgettable day for Ravindra Jadeja, as a miscalculated attempt at a quick single turned disastrous for the Indian team. A sensational direct-hit from England captain Ben Stokes caught the 35-year-old short of his crease, resulting in his departure after making just two runs.

To make things worse, Jadeja was seen holding his hamstring, indicating a potential injury. While the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not yet issued an official update, this development is likely to cause significant concerns for captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid, especially with the team participating in one of their most crucial Test series of the year.

 Dravid Awaits Physio's Assessment

Rahul Dravid, the head coach of the Indian cricket team, expressed the need to discuss the matter with the team's physio to assess the nature and severity of Jadeja's injury. He mentioned, “We’ll see. I honestly haven’t had a chance to speak to the physio as yet. Once I get back, I’ll speak to him and see what it is about,” at the post-match media conference as per a PTI report.

India's loss to England in the first Test match marks only their fourth home Test defeat in the last decade of cricket played on home soil. Out of these four losses, two were against Australia, and now England has added to the list with their two victories.

The second Test match between India and England is scheduled to start on February 2 at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.
