IND vs BAN, 3rd T20I: KL Rahul On Cusp Of Breaking Rohit Sharma’s Record
With Rahul amassing 922 runs in just 27 T20I innings, he stands a good chance of going past Rohit Sharma's record of getting to the 1000-run milestone in in 40 innings.
India’s white ball specialist batsman KL Rahul is on the verge of overtaking a major record if he gets to bat against Bangladesh in the third and final ODI of the 3-match T20I series at Nagpur later on Sunday.
The elegant yet aggressive right handed stroke maker with 922 runs in the shorter format needs just 78 runs more to get to the 1000-run milestone in T20Is. If he attains the landmark, he would be the seventh Indian cricketer after Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to scale the milestone. With Rahul amassing 922 runs in just 27 innings, he stands a good chance of going past Rohit Sharma who got to the milestone in 40 innings.
Skipper Virat Kohli holds the record of being the quickest Indian batsman to score 1000 runs in T20Is. He achieved the milestone in 27 innings – in the first T20I of the series against South Africa in 2015 in Dharamsala. Rohit had reached 1000 T20I runs against Australia in Sydney.
Rahul would like to put up a better show with the willow after not contributing much in the first two encounters. In the first T20I of the series, he was dismissed on 15 off 17 while in the second T20I, Rohit Sharma’s opening blitz meant he didn’t have much to do – Rahul scored 8* off 11.
Rahul has been a regular member of India's T20 set up and boasts of an impressive record for the Men in Blue with 922 runs at an impressive average of almost 42. He has notched up two tons and 5 half centuries in 27 innings and bats at a very brisk pace.
